The host country from last year’s Eurovision is selecting their participant tonight. 25 artists are in the race to be Russia’s next representative for the Eurovision in Oslo in May.

LIVE REPORT (by Zorica Loncar and Deni Stojadinovic):

A dance ensemble is opening the Russian National Final 2010. After them Eurovision 2009 winner Alexander Rybak is entering the stage with his song “Fairytale”. Just to mention: the stage looks amazing !!!

All participants were presented and now the hosts are on stage welcoming the audience in the theatre and at home. There is also a jury of five persons that will vote tonight. As in Eurovision, Russia will choose its participant by a 50% televoting and 50% jury voting.

Now the main part of the show is starting:

Princessa Avenue – Lovers

First in tonight’s national final is the band “Princessa Avenue”. They already tried their luck two years ago in the Russian preselection but didn’t manage to win the ticket. As we all remember, that year Dima Bilan won with the song “Believe”. The girl used to have five members, now only three are left. Surprisingly the song “Lovers” is not in rock style. It is totally a slow song and a little bit strange for Princessa Avenue. Still they are one of the favorites tonight. Vocally the lead singer is great tonight. The audience also seems to love this song.

Jay Stever – I love I love I love you

Latvian singer Jay Stever is next on stage. He is presenting his self written song “I love I love I love you”. Jay also tried several times to enter Eurovision with Latvia. This time he tries his luck in Russia. When you listen to the song you think you are somewhere on a beach chilling. The melody is relaxing, but the song wouldn’t do that great in Eurovision in my opinion. He is accompanied by a female guitar player, a female piano player and two female backing singers. All together seemed to have problems at the beginning of the song, but they continue with a better vocal performance. Maybe a surprise tonight.

Ana – Dva golosa

Ana (Svetlana Valeava) will now perform her song “Dva golosa” (Two voices). She is the daughter of famous Russian singer Boris Valaev. The song is actually not bad, but the fact that she is totally alone on stage makes it a little bit boring. It’s classy dramatic ballad. I don’t think she can manage to win a ticket to Oslo.

Myusha –

-webcast problems-

Para-Bellum – Ptitsa

Next song is rap ballad and its not something we would see on Eurovision really often. Girl vocals are nice, while guy is rapping throughout the whole song. This is a nice song but i really can’t see it going anywhere on Eurovision.

Pyotr Suhov – Ya uletyu

-webcast problems-

Oleg Bezinskih –

-webcast problems-

Natalia Terekhova – Everything

Next on the stage is Nataliya Terekhova with an up-tempo rock song. She is accompanied by her rock band and she gives a really powerful rock performance tonight. Not something that Russia would send on Eurovision I’d say.

Jet Kids –

Now we can see group “Jet Kids” on the stage, that consists of three young girls. Another rock song tonight and they give a nice performance, but i think they still have to work alot before going to Eurovision.

Pavla – Infatuated

Pavla also already was a participant in the Russian National Final before. This year she enters the competition with the uptempo pop-electro song “Infatuated”. She is also one of the favorites to win this competition tonight. She is accompanied by three male dancers. She gives a great vocal performance and also the choreography is very powerful. The song is totally catchy and could do well in Eurovision.

Ekaterina Frolova – Tout va bien

Ekaterina is singing the song “Tout va bien” that is written by her brother. It’s just an avarage pop song. On stage with her are two male and one female dancer and two female backing vocalists. Ekaterina has an amazing voice, but in the end she seems to be a little bit off tune and I think that it doesn’t fit for Russia to sing in french.

Ed Shulzhevsky – Without you

Next on scene is Ed Shulzhevsky with the song “Without you”. He is accompanied by a band. Vocally he is not that good – you can hear the playback female vocalist almost more than him. The only plus in that song for the Russian audience is that he is singing in the end of the song in Russian. “Without you” is a uptempo pop song that contains some r&b tunes. The song is nice, but I don’t think that it would be the best choice for Russia this year.

Band of Peter Nalitch – Lost and forgotten

-webcast problems-

Buranovskiye Babushki –

Something I’ve never seen in any national final or Eurovision i must say. Six old grandmas performing a Russian ethno track with a very interesting performance containing Russian folklore elements and they recieved the biggest applause tonight. Surprise?

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Aleksandr Panayotov – Maya Showtime

The biggest favorite for winning this show tonight is Aleksandr Panayotov. Last year he participated in the Ukrainian preselection ending as the runner-up. Also two years ago he was runner-up in the Russian National Final with the song “Crescent and cross”. This year, as last year, he is performing an uptempo pop-dance song called “Maya Showtime”. He has five dancers/backing vocalists with him on stage. The whole team is very professional. Aleksandr also gives a great vocal performance tonight, but sometimes he is a little bit off tune. But there is nothing bad to say for this performance. In my opinion the winner!

Nano – Take it away

Rock band Nano performed last year in the Russian Final the song “Traitor”. This year they are singing the song “Take it away”. In case they would win tonight, they need to change the song, because it was already premiered in June. I don’t think that they are here for winning. The voice of the singer is nothing special, the performance in monotonous. Not among the favorites tonight.

Natalia Damas ft. L’Brand – Much closer

-webcast problems-

Alena Roxis – My tears

-webcast problems-

Antonello Carrozza –

Antonello Carrozza from Italy is now on the stage. In the postcard the speaker told that Antonello was already once participant in the San Remo Festival and that he would like to go to Eurovision, but as Italy is not participating he decided to try it in Russia. Well the song is a typical Italian pop song with slight rock elements in it. It’s nothing special and nothing for Eurovision.

Polina Kozhikova – For you

Polina Kozhikova is next on the stage and she is singing a pop/opera ballad. She gives dramatic performance but really can’t see this winning.

Los Devchatos – Chocolate

A “Chocolate” song right now on the stage performed by trio “Los Devchatos”. The song is really nice and its in pop/rock style but girls vocals and performance aren’t really impressive.

Yulika – Delete

Yulika (Yulia Lysenko) is a former participant in the Russian Idol Show “Fabrika Zvyozd”. Now she is entering another competition with the song “Delete”. The song is a mixture of pop/r&b with Russian accordion elements. She has also four male dancers with her on stage that bring a great performance. In the middle part of the song there is also a part that sounds a little bit like Samba . This is the most “Russian” song tonight after the grannies.

Elena Esenina – Mir bez tebya

Elena Esenina is now singing her song “Mir bez tebya”, which is a pop ballad. Her backing dancers are dresses in wedding dresses. There are also two male puppets dressed in suits. The vocal performance is good, she seems to be very confident. I can imagine this song to be eventually the juries favorite tonight.

Alaska – Piastry

Next performers are the members of the band “Alaska”. Also this song needs to be changed in case Alaska will win tonight. The song sounds a little bit balkanic. The lead singer of the band is very confident and also the performance of the band was good.

Scenakardia – Styokla

-webcast problems-

COMMERCIAL BREAK

The hosts are back on stage and now they are showing the recap of all 25 songs.

The first interval act tonight is 2008 Eurovision winner Dima Bilan. He has a golden micro and is singing his winning title “Believe”. Next guest act on stage is Russia’s Junior Eurovision singer Katya from 2009.

Alexander Rybak is back on stage. He is presenting a new song from him.

The hosts now mentioned that this is the last chance to vote for the favorites, as the results will be out soon. They are showing once again the recap of all 25 songs.

The televoting is now over!

COMMERCIAL BREAK

And the winners are the band of Peter Naltchik.
